“Draft Core Values – Round 2″ provided a bevy of comments and suggestions and big thanks go out to the many members of the Thomas Nelson community who provided thoughtful and poignant feedback! As a result of this feedback, TNCC’s Core Values have been refined and are presented here for your final review. To all of you who contributed to this effort please know that careful consideration was given to include as many of the suggestions as possible. Please take a moment to check out the values and, as always, feel free to leave a comment here on the blog.

Core Values…The Conversation Continues!

After a relatively low response to the previous post, a survey was sent out to the entire TNCC community regarding draft core values for the 2010-15 Strategic Plan. We asked you to pick your top 5 core values from a list of 10 “Draft” Core Values. In addition, you were given the opportunity to provide comments and suggestions on the Core Values and the descriptive language accompanying them. The response was overwhelming! Over 120 people responded to the survey and provided poignant, constructive ideas for tweaking the Core Values and lanuguage.

A revised set of Core Values was developed as a direct result of the information gleaned from the survey and from the comments and suggestions submitted. While it is virtually impossible to please everybody, careful consideration was given to include as many thoughts and suggestions as possible. Before TNCC’s Core Values are finalized, please take a few minutes to review the revised draft and submit any additional comments. Remember: Your input is valued and is an imperitive part of developing a strategic plan for the entire Thomas Nelson community to support. World Cafe Conversations…Values Emerge

Let’s Talk…VALUES

At the Strategic Planning sessions held in May and June 2009, faculty and staff were asked to share their values by answering the following question:

“What principals or beliefs are most important to you, and inspires your support and ongoing commitment to TNCC?”

There were hundreds of answers given (visit the “Resources” page if you would like to see all of them), and after cataloging and reviewing them, thirteen common values emerged. These “draft” Core Values are expressions of the views and opinions discussed at those planning sessions and will form the foundation of Thomas Nelson’s Core Values.

What are “Core Values” as they pertain to TNCC?

The Core Values of an organization are those values that form the foundation on which we perform work and conduct ourselves. In an ever-changing world, core values are constant. Core values are not descriptions of the work we do or the strategies we employ to accomplish our mission. The values underlie our work, how we interact with one another, and which strategies we employ to fulfill our mission. Core values are the basic elements of governing how we go about our work. They are the practices we use (or should be using) every day in everything we do. (see What Are Core Values link: http://www.nps.gov/training/uc/whcv.htm)

Time to Talk

To keep the College community connected to the planning process and to continue the conversations begun this Spring, we would like you to review these Core Values (click on the link provided below) and identify the “Top 5” values that resonate most with you. In addition, we would appreciate your comments regarding the “value statements” linked to each core value. Please feel free to restate or refine a core value to make it more clear or to enhance its expression of our collective beliefs as a community.
